Even with more than 8 billion people in the world today, there is no one exactly like you.

Have you ever heard an orchestra and wondered in amazement how so many musicians playing so many different instruments could harmonize so perfectly? Or, have you ever had to catch your breath after witnessing the majesty of nature with all its colors and beauty? Imagine what life would be like if we only had one color, or one shape, or one talent. It would be quite boring, huh?

Yet, God has made us and the world around us so unique, vibrant, and exciting. It is no different with the church. We all have different giftings, and styles, and backgrounds, yet we come together to give glory to the same Creator of all things.

One of the greatest privileges that Jesus’ sacrifice at Calvary has given us is that despite our different cultures, languages, and stations in life, we are equal in God’s eyes.

Today's Devotion

Ellie and her mother arrived at the Fine Arts Museum in time for the exhibit.

“I’m really glad you wanted to come today, Ellie. They are showing works by some of the finest painters of all time. Where do you want to go first?” her mother asked.

Ellie glanced over the kiosk in the museum lobby. She pointed to an image that flashed on the screen. “Those paintings are really pretty. Let’s go there,” she said.

“You want to go to the Impressionism section? Good choice,” Mom said.

“What is impress-ism?” Ellie asked.

“Impressionism,” her mother corrected, chuckling. “I think it’s easier to show you than to tell you.”

They walked down a long corridor where large oil paintings hung from the walls. At the end of the hallway, Ellie’s mom turned into a spacious room filled with smaller paintings that displayed an assortment of vibrant colors. Her mother motioned to one of the exhibits. “I want to show you something.”

They eased up to the velvet rope that cordoned off the priceless artwork. “Look at this picture. From a distance, it just looks like a woman planting flowers in a colorful garden. But look closer.”

Ellie squinted at the painting. “What am I looking at?”

“See how the artist used tiny dots of paint? Every intricate brushstroke and little colorful dot come together to form this picture you see.”

“Oh, yeah. I see them now.”

“I wanted to show you this because this is exactly how God made the church. It’s filled with individuals from all walks of life with unique personalities and talents. Together, they make-up a beautiful reflection of Jesus to the world.”

“Like pretty dots of paint.” Ellie said.

Her mother smiled. “Exactly. A beautiful masterpiece.”

Wrap Up

In the Old Testament, the Israelites are recognized as God’s children. God had placed a special favor on them through the lineage of Abraham. Through Jesus, family bloodlines were replaced by the blood of Jesus Christ that washes away all sins, no matter one’s ethnicity or genealogy.

It doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from. To God, you are a brilliant splash of color in the exquisite masterpiece God calls His family.
