If you have seen practically any commercial, you have experienced the marketing tactics manufacturers use to get people to purchase their products. They use terms like “award-winning,” “top ranked,” “number one,” “best-selling.” The list goes on. They do this to set their merchandise apart from their competitors.
As you study the book of Hebrews, there is one word that keeps showing up: “Better.” Used thirteen times in the King James Version of the Bible, the writer of Hebrews makes known that Jesus made things better. Jesus is better than Moses and the angels. We have a better promise than the one promised to Israel.
There is no sales ploy with the writer of Hebrews. The uncontested truth is, Jesus, and all He has to offer, is better than anything this world can provide.
Today's Devotion
For Jeremy’s birthday, his dad took him to a monster truck rally. As they were leaving the arena, Jeremy said to his father, “That was incredible!”
“I’m glad you liked it,” Dad said.
“My favorite part was that giant green truck, Big Bertha. Did you see how it ran over all those little cars? It crushed them like soda cans. I bet you’d like to have Big Bertha to plow through traffic to get to work, huh?”
Dad chuckled. “I can’t say that I haven’t thought about it at times. I enjoyed the show, too. But I didn’t realize it was that loud.”
“Yeah, it got really loud when that big 18-wheeler truck drove out. You know, the one that looked like a huge gorilla. That had to be the most powerful thing in the world, don’t you think?”
“It was pretty incredible, but, most powerful? I’m not so sure about that.”
“Really? There’s something that’s more powerful than that big machine?” Jeremy asked.
“I believe so. There is One who conquered the grave, healed the sick, and cast out demons. Someone who made the heavens and the earth.”
Jeremy giggled. “Oh, yeah. I wasn’t thinking about that. I was talking about Monster Trucks. But you’re right about that. Not even Big Bertha can squish my Jesus. He does the squishing.”
“He certainly has the power to do that. I’m just glad He uses His power for love,” Dad said. “Come on. Let’s find some place quiet to grab a snack. My ears are still ringing.”
Wrap Up
Sometimes, it’s so easy to get caught up in all the Bible stories that we forget that Jesus really did all those things. He brought the dead back to life. He made blind men see and the lame to walk. But His greatest power of all times has to be how His blood can wash away our sins. He’s the only One who can do that because only God can forgive sin.
Let’s make God big again! Let’s trust Him for big miracles.
Is Jesus the biggest part of your life?
